Welcome to Reception!
Welcome to the Reception page were you can find out what we have been learning this term in school.
This document lays out all the developmental stages that children will move through from birth to 5. It contains some great ideas of what you can do at home to support your child's development.
We use these phonics songs and actions to help children when learning their sounds.
This website is filled with phonics games that the children will be familiar with from our phonics lessons.
Today we came into class and found a secret box. It had been left by a superhero who needed our help. We had to protect the box from the Mighty Freeze from planet Frostville. Who is this Mighty Freeze? Why does she want the box? What could be in the box?
Suddenly the Mighty Freeze appeared and froze us all still! She stole the box and ran off! We managed to track it down and opened it to find a note that said:
Now it's time to look inside and you'll discover that becoming a superhero is all about using your imagination.
For the next two weeks we will be reading Supertato! Here are some ideas of things you can do at home.
Our New Playground
Every term children will be sent home with a Homework Bingo sheet. Over the term it would be great to see the children completing as many of the bingo squares as possible. I would love for the children to come and tell me about which activity they have completed with their family.
This terms International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) topic is Animal Rescuers. We were contacted by Animal Rescue and asked if we could open our own Animal Rescue Center. We worked together to set up our center thinking of all the things the animals may need. The next day we received several phone calls regarding different animals in distress around school. We worked together to help the animals and bring them back to full health. We then received a final phone call asking us to go international! Our first stop, Jungles and Rainforests around the world.
In the Jungle and Rainforest
We looked at lots of images of Jungles and Rainforests from around the world. We talked about the differences between them and what we would see. The children were particularly interested in the tree roots they saw in the images and the vines hanging down so we worked together to make our own. Quickly the children's interests turned to Pythons and their vines became giant pythons. Some of the children made their own information books about pythons.
Balance Bike Training
We had our first day of Balance Bike Training! Everyone was very excited to have a go at working on our physical development on the balance bikes. None of us gave up even when we fell or found it tricky to sit on our bikes as we pushed ourselves around. We even had a go riding over the seesaw! We cannot wait to see how we improve over the next few weeks.
Who has been in our classroom!
Reception came into school one day and found that the classroom had been broken into and ransacked! There was a note left by the Fairy Tale police explaining they needed our help to find out who had broken in. The class went on an investigation looking for evidence and recording their findings ready to send to Officer Pigelton. We found porridge, an apple with a bite taken out, a giants foot print, sweet wrappers and lots more evidence. Hopefully we will find the culprits soon and send them back to Fairy Tale Land.
In Reception we have been exploring different ways we can balance and build our blocks to create amazing structures. We use our book of inspiration which shows us different buildings from around the world and see if we can build something even better.
Every half term we will be visiting Paddington Rec to attend Forest School. We spent the whole morning outside exploring the area. We hunted for leaves and pine cones as well as practiced our orienteering skills but most importantly we all enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate!
