Walk for Water Day
On Friday 7th July the whole school participated in the Walk for Water day. Year 1 kicked off the day by walking three times around the playground with a bucket of water. We then discussed how important water is, why we use it and where it comes from. The children then made some fabulous water cycle wheels and learnt some new words:
The children then made some beautiful raindrop art and finished the day off with a floating experiment to see if fresh water or salty water will float an egg. What do you think?
Year 1 had there last trip to Forest School on 30th June. They have had an amazing time this year visiting the environment area in Paddington Rec and exploring the grounds. For our last visit year one got to play 'Find the bags' and also collected and made a colour tab, with all the different colours that they could find around the forest.

Our book this term is Oi Frog.
On Monday 26th June when Year 1 came into the classroom someone had committed a crime. Year 1 have been investigating what has happened by looking at the evidence left at the scene. Mrs Jordan came to visit and give the children more evidence that she had a phone call on Sunday regarding loud noises in the classroom. If you have any information please speak to Miss Mackarell!
Our new topic this term is all about photography.

In Maths we have been practising our direction skills by moving Beebots around a map to get to a different location. We had to work in partners to tell them what button to press to help the Beebot get to the flower. Do you know what forward, backward, left, right and GO mean?

Alice In Wonderland
To celebrate Book Week we got to look at the story Alice In Wonderland.
In Year 1 we got to make Jam Sandwiches and write instructions to tell the Mad Hatter how to make them. We dressed up as our favourite book character and got to do some role play in the style of a character from the story.

World War 2 Day
On Monday 6th March Year 1 came to school dressed as evacuees to experience a day in the life of a child during the Second World War.
The children learnt lots of interesting facts about the war, experienced air raids and created some beautiful art!
Year 1 also turned the whole classroom into an Anderson Shelter to keep safe from the air raids which kept occurring throughout the day. The children really looked the part and had a great history day!

Our English topic this term is based on the story Stanley's Stick. Year 1 will be thinking of creative ideas of what there stick could be, story sequencing and using their phonic skills throughout the term to complete lots of exciting activities all linked with this book.
The Magic Toymaker
Our new topic this term is all about toys.
Year 1 will be learning about the history of toys, how they move and work and creating their own toys. Below is the intention letter for the topic.
On Friday 16th December Year 1 had their Christmas Party and wore their Christmas Jumpers in support of Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day.
They had a great afternoon playing games, eating party food and making Christmas decorations.
For the Key Stage 1 Nativity this year, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 performed the Dinosaur Nativity. It was a great effort by all and the children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their many talents. Thank you to all family and friends that came to support the children.

The children were so surprised when they came in the next day and are really enjoying the new space. Many thanks to Community Playthings who supplied the school with this amazing furniture.
Fire Station Trip
On Tuesday 6th December Year 1 had an fantastic morning at the Paddington Fire Station.
The children learnt all about fire safety and what to do if they ever came across a fire in their home or at school.
They were then allowed to try the hose, sit inside a fire truck and even try on the heavy uniform!

Year 1 have been lucky enough to attend Forest School this year.
Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees. It is a specialised learning approach that sits within and compliments the wider context of outdoor and woodland education.
Year 1 have participated in activities such as creating a leaf mobile, exploring the forest and nature, and even made a fire and drank hot Ribena.
On Friday 4th November we had a whole school Bible Day celebrating lots of different stories from the Old and New Testament.

Naughty Bus ended up breaking all our school rules! He destroyed our classroom and caused a lot of chaos around the whole school. Take a look below at where we found Naughty bus up to no good.
Our topic this term is all about holidays. We have been learning lots about maps, weather, correct clothing and environmental issues. At the end of our topic we will be visiting the Princess Diana Memorial Park and have our own mini holiday! Take a look at our Travel Agency role play and some of the scenarios we have been acting out.
