Letter about return to school

22nd  May 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you well.  Thank you to everyone who sent a response back from our short questionnaire.  It appears at this stage there is approximately 8 children per class that would consider sending their child back to school.  We accept that the majority of you feel that the environment is not safe enough yet to return to school.  We acknowledge your decision as only you know what is right for your child / children at this time.

On Thursday 28th May, the Government will decide if they believe the five conditions for the reopening of schools can be met.  If they are met, our school will open its gate to Year 6 children, children of key workers and to our children most in need from 2nd June. If schools are told that they cannot reopen, we will still provide childcare for vulnerable pupils and children of key workers at St Peter’s.

We have decided to start with the Year 6 children as we believe they will understand the most about the current situation and will be able to adhere to the necessary guidelines we have put in place. I have written separately to those parents in Year 6 who have let us know they would like their child to return and have written out a home-school agreement so everyone is clear regarding the expectations.  Anyone wanting to come back to school must give us at least three days’ notice by emailing or ringing the school so we can make the appropriate adjustments.

We are starting very slowly and once we have completed the first two weeks we will look into offering other classes to return should they wish.  For most of you there will be no change to the current situation and your child will continue to stay at home and access the home learning via the website.

We have spent a great deal of time making preparations and rethinking many of our procedures at school to make sure we keep everyone safe.  If you would like to know about the measures we have put in place, please refer to our risk assessment on the website under ‘News and Events’, ‘Covid’ tab and also under ‘Latest News’.

Thank you for your ongoing understanding and patience as we make preparations for the school to reopen.

Yours sincerely

Sam Adcock
