Letter from Ms Adcock

Dear Parents and Carer’s,
We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well and that you have had a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend.
I am sure after the Prime Ministers statement last night, there are lots of questions you have about a phased return to school for our children.  We have lots of questions that need clarification too.  We have not received any information to support us with this new plan, however we have started making some draft plans which we will continue to work on over the next few weeks.  We expect we will receive further information from the DFE shortly.
The announcement does raise questions regarding
• how schools implement the 2m social distancing rule (note the guidance now says where possible)
• how to ensure the safety of both children and staff and whether they need to use masks or PPE
• how can play and lunchtimes be offered safely
The average classroom measures 7m by 8m: with social distancing each classroom can accommodate approximately 10 pupils. This means each class of approximately 30 children will require 3 classrooms to ensure social distancing.  This will also require extra staff.  There is a lot to consider and sort out before we can confidently begin a phased return of children to school.
I want to reassure you that we will follow the guidance carefully and also rely on our professional judgement, as we know our children and our school community the best.   Dates and guidelines are all conditional and are dependent on what happens over the next few weeks with regards to the 5 rules set out.
For the coming weeks we will continue to do what we already have in place, which is to provide care at Queens Park Primary School for parents of key workers and for those who cannot be safely cared for at home.  Our teachers will continue to provide activities for learning at home, keep in regular contact with you, our families, and we hope that you will continue to support each other in these difficult and uncertain times. I will aim to write again as soon as we have more details.
We are missing your children tremendously but hope that you are enjoying this extra time with them.
Stay safe and take care.

Kind regards
Sam Adcock
