A big warm welcome to Year 5's class page! We have so many fun and exciting new things to learn this term and we'll be putting up lots of photos and information of all the wonderful activities and learning which we have been taking part in.
Our Year 5 teacher, Miss Logue, is incredibly proud of us and all our achievements so far this year! We have been excellent friends and learners and have been working very hard to reach all our targets across the curriculum. Well done!
Healthy eating week!
St Peter's had healthy eating week on 22nd - 26th of May. We teamed up with Food Explorers to provide an interesting, fun, jam-packed week (but not too much jam) learning about eating a balanced diet, healthy foods and how to make sure we are eating the right foods.
Year 5 went to Whole Foods on High Street Kensington with Food Explorers to learn about a variety of different healthy foods and how to create easy, healthy, delicious meals and drinks. The children were also lucky enough to taste several of these foods, hopefully inspiring them to eat healthier themselves.
This term year 5 learned about different 3D shapes and their properties. Learning about a shape's vertices, edges and faces the children had to sort several 3D shapes according to specific properties using physical representations of the shapes to facilitate learning.
This term our new text is King Kong by Anthony Browne.
As part of our learning we explored how the native people on Skull Island felt to have the film crew invade their island unexpectedly. We rehearsed a tribal dance routine imagining we were the natives during a scene in our story.
We created the dance routines independently in our groups and used some of the language which the Malay people used from our text.
Look at our brilliant tribal routines!
What a busy and fun-packed term!
Our new IPC topic is Making New Materials
Our theme this year was Alice in Wonderland. We have had an amazing fun-packed week crammed with lots of activities, games and of course our dress-up day and Mad Hatter's Party!
We had a workshop all about Michael Faraday!
What a brilliant day we all had!
We performed our class assembly on Friday 24th February! We really had lots of fun, knew all our lines and parts off by heart and made all our parents and families very proud!
Ancient Greek Day
We had an Ancient Greek Day on Monday 6th February which was so much fun! Everyone dressed up as Ancient Greek warriors, Gods and Goddesses. We had an amazing day and even tried lots of delicious Greek foods including black and green olives, houmous, pitta bread, feta cheese and tatziki! Well done Year 5 for an incredibly successful day!!
King Odysseus arrives on the Cyclops Island! They eat the Cyclops' bread and cheese then trick the Cyclops into falling asleep so they can escape. They use a burning hot stick from the fire and poke him in the eye, blinding him! The Cyclops was furious! He called upon his father, Poseidon God of the Sea, to avenge him.
Look at us hot-seating Polythemus, the Cyclops!
On their epic journey home, Odysseus and his men must pass through the River of Forgetfulness where they soon arrive on the island of The Land of the Dead. Here they are looking for Tiresius, the dead fortune teller. They are tormented by dead spirits who long to remember their lives and their past, wishing to become human once again.
Look at our miming activity!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Stay safe and have lots of fun, see you all in January 2017!

Year 5 got their Happy feet on! We all went ice-skating on Tuesday 13th December at Westfield Ice Rink! It was lots of fun!
As part of our Bible Day celebrations at St Peters, year 5 learned about the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17). We made our very own masks, re-enacted the story in groups and wrote our own versions for display. We had a great day!
