    Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to our Year 6 page!

I am delighted to be teaching your children this year and am very excited for the year ahead. Year 6 is a truly special year, marking the final chapter of primary school and providing many opportunities for children to grow in confidence, independence and responsibility as they prepare for their transition to secondary school.

The class will be taught by Miss Jones, supported by Miss Carmen on Mondays and Tuesdays, with Ms Hardaf and Ms Matei providing additional support throughout the week. Together, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels happy, challenged and supported so that they can achieve their very best.

We have lots of exciting learning opportunities planned this year and look forward to celebrating the children's achievements, building their resilience, and creating many memorable experiences along the way.

On this page, you will find useful information such as our class timetable, spelling overviews, photos from trips and activities, and other important updates. I hope this page will help you stay connected with all that is happening in Year 6.

    Reading

Reading is one of the most important ways children can support their learning across the curriculum. Children should read for at least 20 minutes, 5 times each week, recording the book title and page numbers in their reading record. Reading records must be signed by a parent or carer and contain a minimum of 5 reading entries each week.

Reading records should be brought into school every day and will be checked on Fridays. Developing regular reading habits helps to improve fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and confidence, all of which are essential as children prepare for secondary school.

    Spellings

Spelling lists will be shared regularly and children should practise these at home throughout the week. Spelling homework is due on Thursdays, and children will be tested on their spellings each week. Regular spelling practice helps children to become more accurate and confident writers.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth and achievement, and thank you for your continued support.

    Best wishes,

    Miss Jones
