Article 12: You have the right to give your opinion, and for adults to listen and take it seriously.
The Article 12 Council is a group of pupil representatives who help ensure that every child’s voice is heard in our school community. Inspired by Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the council meets regularly to share ideas, raise concerns, and work with staff to make positive changes in the school. Congratulations to all the children who were voted in as Article 12 Leaders for 2025/2026. You planned your applications well and spoke convincingly to your classes and you will make a difference!
In their first meeting, the children came up with their mission statement:
Article 12 Mission Statement
We are the Article 12 Council. Our job is to make the school environment wonderful, to collect children’s ideas and opinions and to be great role models.
We want our school to be a vibrant community and a place where everyone feels safe.
Meet our councillors:
This term we are going to listen to what all the children say, collect their opinions and ideas about how they want to improve the school and begin to make a difference. We came up with some questions to ask our classes:
What do you enjoy most about our school, and why?
Are there any parts of the school day (like break times, lunchtime) that you think could be improved? How?
Is there any equipment (in classrooms, on the playground or in shared areas) that you think needs replacing?
Do you feel like your voice is heard when you have a suggestion or concern at school? Why or why not?
If you could change one thing about the school, what would it be?
