Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility
At St Peter’s we recognise that children have a fundamental right to learn in a safe environment and to be protected from harm. Young people are less likely to learn effectively and go on to lead positive and independent lives if they are not kept healthy and safe.
St Peter’s is committed to providing an environment which is safe and where the welfare of each child is of paramount importance. This includes a commitment to ensuring that all pupils feel confident that any concerns they may have will be listened to and acted upon.
Parents and carers also play a role in safeguarding children in their community. If you have any concerns, no matter how small, you should report them to someone who you trust will listen. The school is required to have a designated child protection officer for this purpose. Parents and children should speak to the safeguarding officer if they have any concerns about a child or staff member.
Our Designated Safeguarding lead (DSL) is Mrs Alice Ducros (Headteacher)

Ofsted had this to say about our Safeguarding June 2023
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Leaders have embedded a strong culture of safeguarding. Staff are well trained and alert to any changes in pupils that could be a cause for concern. Leaders have a detailed understanding of local safeguarding risks. They work closely with parents to ensure that they have the information they need to keep their child safe, including online. Leaders take swift and decisive action when needed. They work closely with the local authority to ensure that appropriate help is given as early as possible. Inspection report: St Peter’s CofE School 13 and 14 June 2023 4 Pupils are taught from Reception about how to keep themselves safe.
Pupils have trusted adults they can turn to if they have any worries.
LDBS Safeguarding Audit June 2024
St Peter’s CofE school carries out the robust LDBS safeguarding audit, which covers a wide range of aspects to keep children safe, on an annual basis. The last one was carried out on 10th June 2024. We ensure that any safeguarding queries are discussed fully with our LDBS Link Adviser (in addition to advice from the Local Authority SIP -school improvement partner/LADO - local authority designated officer) so that the school is confident all aspects are effective and the school is compliant.
Safeguarding Curriculum Map
We have mapped out a new safeguarding curriculum which clearly identifies how we safeguard children across every area of school life and throughout our wider curriculum. This document sets out how we teach children about personal safety, online safety, healthy relationships, wellbeing and how to seek help or raise concerns. By mapping this carefully, we ensure that key safeguarding messages are revisited, built upon and delivered in an age-appropriate way as children move through the school. This approach allows us to be confident that safeguarding is not treated as a standalone topic but is embedded consistently within daily school life and learning. Our aim is to help children feel safe, supported and confident in understanding how to keep themselves and others safe.
We will continue to review and develop this curriculum to reflect the needs of our children and the world they are growing up in.
