Staffing Roles and Responsibilities

St Peter’s school benefits from a variety of different staff that support the learning and welfare of children.  In addition to the main teacher in each classroom, there are many other staff inside and outside of lessons that contribute to how the children learn and how the school runs.  These roles are typically called Support roles and make up approximately half of the school workforce.

 

TEACHING ROLES

Teacher:  Responsible for the educational, social and emotional development of children at school

Deputy Headteacher: second most senior position in the school and stands in for the Headteacher in her absence.  Manages staff and monitors progress towards achieving our aims and objectives.

Headteacher: the most senior position in the school.  Works with the School Governors to manage and elevate the school.  Provides vision and leadership and ensures a safe environment for staff and children to achieve their best. 

Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo):  responsible for the day to day operation of the school’s SEN policy.  Plans and co-ordinates additional support for children with SEN and liaises with parents and other professionals who are involved with them.

 

SUPPORT ROLES

Teaching Assistant (TA): Supports teachers and helps children with their emotion al and social development, prepares classrooms for lessons, helps children who need extra support.

Admin Assistant:  provides admin support for the school office, including pupil attendance, welcoming visitors, ordering resources and sending key data to the Department of Education.

Admin/Finance Officer: orders supplies and processes payments and expense claims.  Manages pupil admissions.

Caretaker:  Creates a safe and healthy environment for people to work and for children to learn.  Manages the maintenance and security of school buildings and supervises external contractors.

Catering Assistant: Provides meals for children at lunchtime.

ICT Technician:  Looks after school networks, orders and maintains software/hardware and provides technical support to staff and children.

School Business Manager:  Responsible for keeping the school accounts and making the most of the available resources.  Provides financial advice to Headteacher and School Governors. Manages Health & Safety.
