Intent
At St Peter’s Primary School, Thrive @ St Peter’s is our whole-school personal development programme, designed to enrich life in school and prepare children to live life in all its fullness.
Through a carefully sequenced programme of focus days centred on Our Wellbeing, Our Contribution, Our Cultures, Our Community, Our World and Our Futures, we ensure that every child develops the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to thrive as confident, compassionate and responsible individuals.
Our intent is that all pupils:
Develop strong emotional wellbeing, resilience and self-awareness, enabling them to be ready to learn and manage life’s challenges
Understand their place in society and recognise the importance of giving back through positive contribution and service
Celebrate diversity and develop mutual respect and tolerance, valuing different cultures, beliefs and identities
Become active and informed members of their local and wider community, understanding democracy, fairness and the rule of law
Take responsibility for the natural world, making informed choices that support sustainability and stewardship
Build aspiration, curiosity and confidence for their future, linking learning to skills, interests and next steps
Thrive @ St Peter’s is inclusive by design. It promotes British Values, actively supports understanding of protected characteristics in age-appropriate ways, and ensures equality of opportunity for all pupils. Progression is clear from Reception to Year 6, moving from awareness and participation to leadership, advocacy and independence.
By the time children leave St Peter’s Primary School, we intend that they are well-rounded, respectful and tolerant young people, equipped with the values, voice and confidence to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world.
Implementation
Thrive @ St Peter’s is delivered through a carefully planned, sequential programme that builds skills, knowledge, and attitudes progressively from Reception to Year 6. Each half term, the school focuses on one of our six key elements:
The programme begins with a whole-school assembly, during which our school values are revisited and linked to the Thrive focus. Following this, each class participates in a dedicated Thrive morning, during which children engage in age-appropriate activities designed to deepen their understanding, practice skills and reflect on their learning. These activities are planned to encourage active participation, collaboration, empathy and leadership and are tailored to the developmental stage of each year group.
Thrive @ St Peter’s supports and enriches the teaching of our PSHE and RSE curriculum, reinforcing learning about wellbeing, relationships, diversity, equality, and citizenship. It provides structured opportunities to explore British Values and Protected Characteristics, ensuring children learn to respect differences, celebrate diversity and take responsibility for themselves, their peers, and their community.
Through this approach, Thrive @ St Peter’s is fully integrated into school life, supporting the personal development of every pupil and ensuring that our children leave St Peter’s as confident, respectful, and socially responsible individuals.
