Outdoor Learning

At St Peter’s, outdoor learning is an integral part of our curriculum and a valued extension of the classroom. Children from Reception up to Year 4 take part in termly Forest School sessions, developing confidence, resilience and teamwork through hands‑on exploration. Research from the Forest School Association highlights that regular outdoor learning can significantly improve children’s wellbeing, social skills and problem‑solving abilities which are benefits we see every day in our pupils. We are also proud of our school garden where children grow a variety of fruits and vegetables which they later harvest and enjoy.

Beyond the school grounds, classes make excellent use of our local area, visiting nearby parks and undertaking geography fieldwork to bring learning to life.

As Sir David Attenborough reminds us, “No one will protect what they don’t care about and no one will care about what they have never experienced.” Through outdoor learning, we ensure every child experiences, enjoys and understands the world around them.
