Welcome to our Year 5 page!

I am delighted to be teaching your children this year with the support of Mrs Ward and Ms Catherine and am very excited for the year ahead. Year 5 is an important and formative year, where children will build their confidence, independence and resilience while taking on greater responsibility for themselves and their learning.

We have lots of exciting learning opportunities planned and look forward to nurturing curiosity, encouraging collaboration and celebrating the children’s achievements throughout the year.

On this page, you will find useful information such as our class timetable, spelling overviews, photos from trips and activities, and other important updates. I hope this page will help you stay connected with all that is happening in Year 5.

Reading: Children should read for 20 minutes, 5 times a week, recording the book title and page numbers in their diary. Diaries must be signed by an adult weekly, and both books and diaries should be brought to school every day. Diaries are checked on Mondays, and families will be contacted if the 5 reading entries have not been completed.

Spellings: Spelling lists will be sent at the beginning of each half term. Children will practise weekly spellings in their homework book, focusing on three words using the grid system. Children in Rapid Catch Up will receive phonics-levelled spellings instead. A weekly spelling quiz will happen on a Friday. Homework books should be in school on a Monday.
