RE Intent

St Peter's vision words

At St Peter's Church of England Primary School we have four vision words, which shape how each of us works within the school community:

"Invite, Include, Imagine, Inspire"

Invite: We invite everyone on our journey towards a bright and fulfilling future.

Include: We include everyone: differences are valued and individuals can flourish.

Imagine: We imagine a world of hope and harmony in our inclusive Christian environment.

Inspire: We inspire everyone to make a difference and be the best they can be.

Our curriculum at St Peter’s is underpinned by Christian values and aims to inspire all our children in their learning. It also aims to:

Deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and maximises the outcomes for every child so that they know more, remember more and understand more. As a result of this, children will become independent and responsible members of a society who understand and explore big questions about life, to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that they can make sense of religion, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.
Provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about and from religions and worldviews in local, national and global contexts, to discover, explore and consider different answers to these questions.
Equip children with systematic knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews, enabling them to develop their ideas, values and identities.
Encourage our children to develop an aptitude for dialogue so that they can participate positively in our society, with its diverse religions and worldviews

RE Implementation

Collective worship occurs daily, either in class or in an assembly.
Religious Education is taught in accordance with the LDBS Agreed Syllabus. In each year there is a focus on Christianity, plus the opportunity for pupils to learn about and evaluate their own views on other world religions.
In order to encourage religious literacy, each unit of work has an overall question (Big question) and each lesson also has a key question to encourage discussion and thought.
Every year group’s units of work must include:

-The Big Picture, what they will be learning and what they have been taught in previous year groups, to show how this build upon their previous learning. Specific key vocabulary and its meaning.

- Opportunities for the children to work interactively, using other curriculum areas e.g music, drama, art, with the teacher acting as the facilitator.

Every lesson starts with a 'review' of the previous learning
One trip is planned for each year group every year in order to visit a variety of religious places of worship.

RE Impact

Religious Education is assessed using formative and summative assessment. We use a PITA (Point in time assessment) to assess if the children are working below, working at or working above what has been taught that term.
Formative assessment also takes place in lessons through the use of questioning, low stakes quizzes and written work.
