At St. Peter’s Primary School, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum is designed to develop children’s love of physical activity and staying active. Our aim is that all pupils will leave St. Peter's Primary physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. We nurture a culture where children enjoy playing as part of a team, improving their communication, problem-solving and sportsperson-ship, and understanding that taking part can be as important and valuable as winning. Our broad, balanced and carefully sequenced curriculum aims to provide our children with the opportunity to build on their experiences in order to achieve their goals.

Here at St. Peter's, the teachers and teaching assistants offer after-school clubs. See below:
- Hockey (Friday with Mr Mason)
Clubs ran by external providers:
- Elm's football KS2
- Pro Touch multi-sports (free)
- Reception and KS1 Pro Touch multi-sports (free)
- Girls football (free)

The National Curriculum states that all schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2. In particular, pupils should be taught to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres. This academic year (25/26), we are providing swimming lessons for children in Year 5 These children are attending swimming lessons at Moberly Sports Centre on a Friday afternoon. Next April, we will be providing lessons for Year 4 pupils.
Our PE Curriculum is high quality, well thought-out and is planned to demonstrate progression across the different year groups. Within lessons, there are opportunities for formative assessment that is ongoing throughout each lesson. Teacher use this assessment to judge the progress of pupils which enables the teacher to make flexible adaptations to their planned teaching. We help motivate children to participate in a variety of sports through high-quality teaching that is engaging, fun and challenging. From our lessons, our children learn to take responsibility for their own health and fitness, problem-solve, and work as part of a team dealing with any conflicts and disagreements which may arise within their teams or with the opposition. St. Peter's children love sport and physical activity and highly value their PE lessons here at school. We are very proud of the progress they make throughout the year and their enthusiasm to take part in workshops and competitions both at school, on trips and outside of school. We believe all St. Peter's pupils have the potential to grow up to live happy and healthy lives utilising the skills and knowledge acquired through PE.
At St. Peter’s, we use the scheme Get Set 4 Education. Get Set 4 Education has a specific PE scheme designed for all primary ages. Get Set is committed to offering high-quality resources and tools and, most importantly, fun and engaging lessons which help inspire children to want to be active and get involved in sports both in and outside of school.
In EYFS, the scheme focuses on developing fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, balancing, throwing and catching. Children also begin to develop coordination, spatial awareness and confidence in movement through a range of playful activities. These lessons encourage children to work both independently and with others while building the foundations for physical development.
In Key Stage 1, pupils build on these foundations by improving their agility, balance and coordination. They learn basic skills in areas such as gymnastics, dance and simple team games. Children begin to understand rules, practise simple tactics and develop teamwork while continuing to refine their movement and control.
In Key Stage 2, the scheme develops more advanced skills and understanding across a wider range of sports and physical activities. Pupils learn to apply tactics in team games, improve their technique in activities such as athletics, gymnastics, dance and invasion games and develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills. The curriculum also encourages pupils to evaluate and improve their own performance, promoting confidence and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.

BECOMING A PARK RUN SCHOOL
We are very excited to announce that St Peter’s will be becoming a Parkrun School!
Junior park runs take place every Sunday at 9:00 am at Paddington Recreational Ground, Randolph Avenue, London, W9 1PD. These free, family-friendly events are a wonderful way for children to stay active, build confidence and it encourages them to set personal goals.
To launch this exciting initiative, we will be holding our first whole-school Parkrun on Sunday 16th November. Our Headteacher, Mrs Ducros, will be there to cheer everyone on!
After this launch event, families are welcome to attend as often as they wish. It would be fantastic to see as many of our pupils as possible representing St Peter’s each week and getting fit together!
We hope to see many of you there, running, walking or simply supporting from the side-lines.
Here are details of the event:
