PE SUBJECT OVERVIEW

PE INTENT:

We recognise the value of Physical Education (P.E) and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. We fully adhere to the aims of the national curriculum for physical education to ensure that all children:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives
  • develop values and transferrable life skills such as fairness and respect

PE IMPLEMENTATION:

  • Opportunities are given for children to take part in competitive sport
  • Our curriculum is organised so that key skills are developed and built upon through fun and engaging, high quality PE lessons
  • A range of sports are taught to ensure a wide variety of experience.

PE IMPACT:

We measure the impact of our curriculum through the following methods:

  • Pupils are able to demonstrate their skills in an organised game or performance.
  • Images of the children’s practical learning.
  • Interviewing the pupils about their learning (pupil voice).
  • Teacher assessment

Swimming Lessons

Currently, children in years 3 and 4 receive 1 hour of swimming instruction per week, meaning they have plenty of time to master the basics of swimming and giving some a chance to develop their skills to a very high level.

Active 10/Daily Mile

Every week each class has 2 hours of PE lessons per week. In addition, every day, each child completes an extra 10 minutes physical activity using equipment or music. We call this time 'Activ 10'.

Activities include:

  • The Daily Mile (laps of the playground or around the outside of school).
  • Joe Wicks PE on youtube
  • Scarves
  • Skipping
  • Bean bags
  • Balls
  • Bats and Balls
  • Just Dance videos!
