Year 2 STEM Day
Year 2 celebrated STEM day by taking part in a range of experiments and tasks. We worked in groups to build spaghetti towers and discovered the importance of designing, planning and working together as a team. When things didn't go to plan, we showed resilience and problem solved in order to be successful.
We made balloon cars out of water bottles and learnt about forces. We also made predictions about the best way to prevent microbes from spreading when we sneeze. Did you know that microbes can travel up to 4m if you don't use a tissue when you sneeze? We are all going to make sure we carry a tissue in our pocket when we have a cold!
Science- Look at our fantastic bug hotels!
In science this term we have been learning all about living things and their habitats. The children designed and created their very own micro-habitat for mini-beasts. They had to justify their designs and explain why insects would like them.
The children worked in groups to make their hotels and worked on many skills throughout the day. The children displayed excellent problem solving skills, team-work, perseverance, patience and determination. They also learnt many new skills like sawing, drilling, sanding and hammering.
Thank you to all the parents for your support in bringing in resources and helping out on the day!
English in Year 2
Year 2 children have been enjoying learning about Paddington Bear so far this term. They have been busy writing postcards and letters to Aunt Lucy in the role of Paddington Bear. Last week, they made Paddington's favourite food- marmalade sandwiches and even enjoyed eating them afterwards!
The children also came up with their own ideas for a new story and have all written an exciting and funny adventure for this much loved bear!
Over the next few weeks, they will be looking at the book 'Dear Greenpeace' and thinking about the environment.
Science in Year 2
In science we have been looking at the features of living organisms. We have sorted and classified things from our school garden into 3 categories- things that are living, things that are non-living and things that were once living but now dead.
We have also been looking at micro habitats and we went on a mini-beast hunt in the garden. We recorded our findings and thought about reasons why they like their habitat.
We are learning to tell the time using analogue and digital formats. We are aiming to be able to read the time to 5 minute intervals. This game is a great way to work on it at home.
Use this online game to work on your quick mental maths skills!
